  Tipu`s dungeon
by MichaelFalk1969

Sringapatnam (there are different versions of the name) is a historic city near Mysore with several sights related to the Mysore rulers Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan.

The city itself is located on an island within the river Kaveri; the historic ramparts are still in good shape. Soldiers who wanted to storm this fortress town would have a tough time. The dungeons where Haider Ali and Tipu kept prisoners of war can still be visited.

The town also features the remarkable Sri-Ranganathaswamy-Tempel and the Jama Masjid mosque.

A short distance from Srirangapatnam brings you to the Daria Daulat Bagh, the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan, made almost completely from teakwood. The palace has paintings and historic artefacts related to Tipu Sultan, and the highlights are large murals with paintings of Mysore victories against the British invaders.
