"Arnarstapi - North-Iceland - a great view." Skagafjaršars’sla Things to Do Tip by Regina1965
Skagafjaršars’sla Things to Do: 25 reviews and 120 photos
There is a monument in east Vatnsskarš called Arnarstapi where there is the best view of Skagafjöršur region with its beautiful valley. The monument was raised in remembrance of the Icelandic poet Stephan G. Stephansson (1853-1927) with pictures on all sides of the pillar.
On a sunny day there is a breathtaking view there and one can see as far as Drangey island where Grettir Įsmundsson and his brother Illugi were slain. But it can also get very windy up here.
Down in the valley there is Varmahlķš (see my tip on the restaurant). My last photo is from the valley.
Address: Arnarstapi, Vatnsskarš, North-Iceland
Directions: Arnarstapi is by ring-road 1 as you drive south from Akureyri ca 97 km from Akureyri and ca 292 km from Reykjavķk.
