Various restaurants and vendors: "Salep" Istanbul Restaurant Tip by WulfstanTraveller

A nice treat during winter, especially on a cold, rainy day, is salep. This is a drink made of hot milk cooked with orchid root and sugar. It is typically topped with cinnamon. It is thick and swet and a very nice way to warm up. One can find it made from instant packages or really cooked the proper way, the latter being much better but also quite a bit more expensive. A good cup of hot, real salep can cost anywhere from 3-7 lira in my experience, usually around 4.

Comparison: N/A
Directions: Just look for places advertising salp or "sicak salep," which just means hot salep.
