"Beaches" Malta Things to Do Tip by Theocat

Malta Things to Do: 107 reviews and 267 photos

Mention you're going to Malta and a lot of people will stare at you blankly and say 'but there aren't any beaches there, it's all rocky'. Well, that's what happened to me, anyway. The short answer is that they're wrong, although Malta is rocky there are at least two fantastic beaches.

One is the Golden Bay beach, and it is huge. Even when there are a lot of people there, it doesn't seem like a lot. You can go a long way out before it is very deep. The only thing is that it's got a lot of seaweed and some crisp packets! And the waves are tremendous. Lots of fun jumping around in them.

The second beach is Mellieha, and it is so worth the vist. You know all the holiday brochure pictures of beaches with clear white sand and turquoise water? They took those at Mellieha. Again, it's shallow for a long way out. The only thing is that it is very popular so there are lots of people. But it's not too bad even with that. You can buy some goggles and go for a swim to see all the fish - the water is very clear.

Directions: You can get to either easily on the bus.
