South Newstead Things to Do: 1 reviews and 2 photos

This unusual house has eight sides (instead of four) so that one room faces the sun at any time of the year (except for noon when the sun is directly overhead).

The brochure highlights these features of the house:
- Hand hewn beams form the framing of the house.
- Encircling porch.
- Each side of the octagon is sixteen feet, two inches long .
- A cupola with bracketed cornice and windows looking in each direction is atop the house.
- There are fifteen rooms.
- A "dumbwaiter" conveyed the food upstairs by rope pulleys.

The guided tour of the house takes less than an hour and cost $7 per adult.

Address: 145 Main Street
Directions: right in the heart of the Village of Akron
