There are 2 ways to approach Goafoss, one is from the parking lot which leads right up to the waterfall (see my previous tip) and the other one is from the parking lot at Fosshˇll hotel. From there you walk by the glacial river Skjßlfandafljˇt and up to Goafoss and that is quite a different angle.

From there you will see the extraordinary basalt formations by the river. They are amazing. The angle of the waterfall is also different from that seen from the main parking lot. So that is a recommended.

From the main parking lot one can cross a bridge and walk in a semicircle up to the other side of the waterfall.

Address: Fosshˇll, Goafoss, Bßradal, 645 Fosshˇll
Directions: Goafoss is in N-Iceland just off ring-road one mid-way between Mřvatn and Akureyri. Coming from Mřvatn it is on your left hand side, either park at Fosshˇll hotel or at the parking lot by the waterfall itself.

Beautiful rock formation and nice build up to arriving at the beautiful falls.

Yes, I agree. Unfortunately these beautiful formations collapsed a couple of years ago :(

Those basalt formations look almost like the waterfall turned to stone!
