"Flea Market" Skopje Local Custom Tip by mikey_e

I was in Skopje in mid-September, when students get ready for the new year by buying books. In most Balkan states, books must be purchased by the students and are not provided by the state. This creates a thriving used textbook market every September. This one was across the river from the Holiday Inn, and was packed with books for students of all ages, as well as other books of general interest. I bought a phrasebook here for 1 euro, although it was mainly because bargaining was so much fun. You won't be able to find much here if you don't read Macedonian (not even Greek or Serbian speakers will have much of a selection), but I always find it fun to go through markets and listen to people bargain and haggle.
