Unlike other Mexican borders like Tiajuana in San Diego, Rocky Point (also known as Puerto Penasco) is a more peaceful and serene retreat. You can drive to Rocky Point from Phoenix in just a little over four hours --- better to make sure you bring your passport with you though.

The drive is relatively easy, and you just have to purchase Mexican auto insurance which can be bought along the way or online. Depending on your type of car, prices range from $50-100 per day. And once you arrive at the border, you just have to drive for another 30-45 minutes before you see the tourist are.

You would be amazed at how wonderful the hotels and resorts are. Actually, a lot of Americans have bought properties in the area and are actually renting it on a day-to-day retreat for vacationers (mostly coming from adjacent Arizona, Texas and California).

The rooms are one to even four bedroom suites and are fully furnished in most establishments. It is easy to drive around in and the people are also used to tourists.
