Just across Manila Cathedral is Plaza de Roma. Initially known as Plaza Mayor in1797, it had undergone some name changes: Plaza MacKinley (to honor former US Pres. William MacKinley)in1901, and Plaza de Roma in1961 (to honor Rome's Sacred College of Cardinals) after the elevation of the 1st Filipino Cardinal, Rufino J. Santos.

The Plaza centerpiece is the bronze monument of Carlos IV of Spain in the middle of the fountain. The monument was erected in 1824, while the fountain was built in 1886.

Today, Plaza de Roma is the favorite site of photo shoots for pre-nuptial or newly wedded couples. Tourist also love to have pictures at the fountain.
