With 13 million volumes, Rio's Biblioteca Nacional is Latin America's largest library. The original archives were brought from Portugal's Biblioteca Real by King Dom João VI in 1808 when he fled Napoleon's army. The elegant Neoclassical edifice was designed by Héctor Pépin specifically as a library and was completed in 1908.

Address: Avenida Rio Branco 219 at Cinelândia - CENTRO
