The Akshardham temple with its huge complex measuring about 100 acres on the banks of river Yamuna in Delhi is the largest Hindu temple in the world. It was opened to the public on 8 November 2005. The architectural styles followed were typical Indian styles of Vastu Shastra and Pancharatna Shastra. The temple which depicts the Hindu mythology and Indian culture. It attracts about 70% of all visitors to Delhi and it is expected that in coming years the percentage is likely to increase. The construction took more than 2 years and costed a soaring amount of Rs.2 billion (USD 4.2 million) funded by millions of Hindus all over the world. There are 234 finely sculpted and designed pillars, about 20,000 statues and arches. There is the Swaminarayan temple, musical fountain, exhibition halls, an IMAX theatre, a huge garden, a restaurant modeled on the designs of the Ajanta and Ellora caves and an Ayurvedic bazaar. The temple is visible at a distance on way to Noida.
