If you pay the entrance fee for the Castle, then a visit to the Museum is free. Open from 21st. March until 15th. October. Monday to Saturday from 10.30 to 16.30 Sunday from 12.00 to 16.30. The museum was once a summer house of the Duke of Sutherland and contains the skins and other parts of dead animals from his exotic travels and so called sporting adventures. I'm not a fan of this kind of museum but it does teach us that today hunting of any kind is under stringent controls and unlike the upper class of the past animals are not subject to such cruelty under the name of sport. One thing I did like were the old grave stones retrieved from the nearby grounds which charted the history of Sutherland's past. The 'no photography' rule was instilled in this building - nothing would be harmed by a flash here but I wouldn't want photos of elephant tusks or lion's skins. Their memory is enough for me.
