Central Railway Station, Sydney: 3 reviews and 15 photos

Central Station in Sydney is the transit hub of the entire city. You will find all manner of train connections here from suburban, regional, to national trains coming from as far away as Perth on the west coast. Sydney Light Rail also terminates in front of Central Station as well as many buses.

Most CityRail trains will come through underground where there are several of the 25 track platforms in use and a few that are still not used. If you arrive underground like this I highly recommend you take the time to walk upstairs and see the station building itself.

The train shed is a large city shed typical of those you?ll find in modern Europe. This current version of Central was built in the 1906 north across the street from the former two Central Stations and expanded several times since.

The clock tower was not part of the original structure and was added in 1921. From outside the station the clock tower is one of the classic sights of Sydney as it peaks above the tree line.

These days for me, arriving in Central Station tells me I am home again. I don?t live here, but it sure feels like home.
