Commissioned and paid for by Agostino Pedemonte an immigrant from Genoa, the Christopher Columbus Monument was unveiled on December 8th, 1889.
Obviously, Christopher Columbus never reached Argentina, but like many of the immigrants who settled here, he was born in Genoa. At one time, so many of the population of the Boca district of Buenos Aires were from Genoa that they even tried to become an independent Genoese republic.
Directions: Blvd San Martin, Buenos Aires.
