Dobel is the place for the annual Sled Dog Race "Eiszäpflelauf". It was quite an amazing experience to be so close to these wonderful animals. The entire ground is full with Huskies, Malamotes, and other furry critters.
The race usually takes places on the third weekend of December, even without snow (apparently the sleds are then running on wheels).
The local firemen organize the event with "Glühwein"stands, goulash and bratwursts, coffee, etc.
The race goes from Friday to Sunday and is concluded with a wild party on Saturday night at the "Kurhaus" with live music and a special surprise for the male guests ;) ...
What's so special about this race is that you get up close to the animals and the mushers. There are over 60 sled teams from all over Europe.
If you're in the area, make sure not miss it, as it is an unforgetable experience to see the power and virtue of the animals.
