  Palacio de Navarra
by mikey_e

The Palacio de Navarra, also on the Paseo de Sarasate, was once the seat of the Diputación de Navarra, but now houses the Government of Navarra (the first is for the Province, the latter for the Community ? the two have different constitutional responsibilities). It was begun in the 1840s in neo-Classical style with a tendency towards looking like a palace, and was further renovated in the beginning of the 20th century, when Pamplona was undergoing serious expansion thanks to the destruction of part of the city?s walls. The interior of the Palace is supposed to be quite impressive, as it was designed in Isabelline style with the work carried out by artists from all across the province. I?m not entirely certain that you can enter the building and look around. With the construction of the Second Extension (Segundo Ensanche) in the 1930s, more of the surrounding buildings were designed to blend with the style of the Palacio de Navarra, providing more harmony to the entire area.
