After a substantial winter walk or an excursion it may occur primarily at the children, that their limbs are so much cold , that they hurt practically.
When the body notices a drop in temperature it will stop the bloodflow to the legs and arms by contracting the blood vessels.
The legs, hands being frozen through, you may warm up gradually only, because they store a lot of cold blood and the heart doesn't like drastic changes.

The correct warming of body parts being got cold: into a water bath at the beginning only lukewarm, you should feed warm water very slowly, till is getting warm to a body temperature.
Do not rub them, you may cause injuries with strong rubbing, and to rub with snow is particularly prohibited!
