  Tartans on the Power Poles
by balhannah

Maclean has a strong Scottish heritage dating back to the 1800?s and is very proud of it.

This amazing project of painting the power poles, began life in 2000, and was initially put into action to coincide with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Maclean that year. At the beginning, not a lot of poles were painted, that was until the community said they liked it!
With their blessing, the painting was continued by Linda Elmir, the local artist, starting from the Harwood bridge, all the way through the town and to Ferry Park at the town?s southern end, making a total of over 200 painted poles, each with the clan name.

If your looking for a specific clan power pole, pop into the Tourist information centre so you can find the location of your Tartan easily.

Address: All around Maclean
