Chiesa di San Martino, Treviso: 3 reviews and 14 photos
Besides the impressive fresco of my previous tip, there were other artworks that caught my eye in this church.
My main photo shows a painting by Sig. Rizzotto from Bassana - The Altar piece of St. Giovanni Bosco and St. Domenico Savio
"The work shows the 2 saints being worshipped by many pious people at their feet who symbolize mankind in its manifold races, occupations and situations. The Parish priest, Father F Pasin , who died on November 28th 1985 is represented among the believers"
Next to this painting, was a different style (pic 3)- the plaque stated "Donazione a S. Martino
Patrono di tutti i Fanti
La Sez Fanti di Nerresa d B
9 Novembre 1996
This depicted Saint Martin on horseback, cutting his cloak in half to share with a beggar. Apparently this is a common image of Saint Martin once Bishop of Tours, as well as having been a soldier and monk. He was against paganism - destroying pagan temples that he came across!
As it was Christmas time, there was a presepe (Nativity Scene) (pic 4) by the altar, along with a poinisetta plant
