Originally the Post Office Tower (in the days before privatisation of British Telecom), this distinctive structure used to be the tallest building in London. The top part used to be a restaurant, and rotates (when it's switched on), going round once every 20 minutes, and providing a fairly spectacular view of London's grime-obscured skyline. Of course it was all closed to the general public years ago when people became worried that the IRA would find it a tempting place to leave a bomb. You can still go up here but it's VIPs by invitation only, I'm afraid. Have I been up there? Well, yes... I have to admit I have. And they rotated the restaurant especially for me...

Address: Surprisingly near Bolsover Street, W1
Directions: Nearest Tube, Goodge Station. At Cleveland St.
