Take a trip up the London Eye, the largest ferris wheel in the world. It's about 8 per adult, and you'd be well advised to book in advance. The Eye gives one of the best views of the London skyline you're going to get short of flying around in a light aircraft (which isn't allowed for safety reasons).

It moves pretty slowly (about 20 minutes to get all the way round once), and you're totally enclosed in a gondola, but even so, it's not for people who are afraid of heights.

From the top you can see a long way. Prominant (distant) landmarks that are visible are Battersea Power Station, St Paul's, and Canary Wharf. Of course, there's the whole of the West End spread out in front of you as well!

Address: Waterloo, SE1
