"Novy Most (New Bridge)" Novy Most - New Bridge - UFO Bridge Tip by Rupanworld

Novy Most, meaning New bridge is a road bridge over river Danube in Bratislava and was built between 1967 and 1972. For building this bridge a significant portion of the old town close to the Castle including the Jewish quarter and the historic city walls was demolished and this came in for much criticism. It is the lowest (in height) member of World Federation of Great Towers (an association of tall towers and skyscrapers of the world) and is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge with one pylon and one cable-stayed plane. it is 430 metres long, 21 metres wide and weighs 7537 tonnes and is made of steel. Amazingly, it has a restaurant up there on top of one of the pylons at a height of 85 metres and is called 'UFO' because of its shape. It has an elevator down to take you up there. Quite amazing indeed. But otherwise the bridge is quite unimpressive in looks.
