"Maropeng" South Africa Things to Do Tip by tompt

Maropeng is the name of the area. It is a World Heritage Site, where is said humankind was born. An other name for this area is Cradle of the Humankind. Maropeng is also the name of the visitor centre. It is a modern museum in a striking building.
The museum is formed like an ancient burial mount, also called Tumulus. Inside the Tumulus the classical elements earth, fire, water and air are used to start the exhibition. First you go on a short boat ride along these elements. It is a nice ride, notice that the wall is real ice at one point.
Further on the museum is interactive and real hands on. Nice to visit with kids, but it was great for us adults too.
