The Jonathan Gibbs house was built in 1771 and still stands on its original site. The house was purchased by Newport Restoration Foundation in the lat 1960's and restored. he house is a small and modest cottage that was very typical of the time period.
Jonathan Gibbs was a housewright; he bought the land which originally belonged to Governor Benedict Arnold. Mr. Gibbs lived in the house until 1782 before selling the property.
