In September 2008 I enjoyed a wonderful scuba diving holiday in La Escala (L'Escala) during which I helped as an EcoDive volunteer.
I received training to identify fish species and to help with collecting underwater data on an important seagrass that is rapidly disappearing around the Mediterranean.
The research contributes to protection planning for this rich habitat (Posidonia) which has already disappeared from most of the South of France and southern Spain.
Most divers only think of the Medes when visiting the Costa Brava, but the diving from La Escala is superb.
My trip was also very cheap as all the diving and accommodation in a lovely apartment was included. In fact, I got all the diving, apartment and transfers for less than you would pay for 10 dives at any other dive centre!

Equipment: A 5mm wetsuit was sufficient in Sept when the sea temperature was into the mid twenties. You can bring your own dive gear or arrange to hire it. Most important is to bring an underwater camera, if you have one, for the amazing photo opportunities.
