My tour agent booked me in the Dedeli Konak because I wanted to stay in a cave hotel. It's a charming place run by Mr Ibrahim & his family, who not only organizes daily trips around Cappadocia but also speaks Japanese - specially for the Japanese tourists.
The hotel is restored from a 400 yr old Greek style home and has 10 well appointed ensuite cave rooms. When I say cave rooms, it means that the rooms are carved out from soft rock which is quite unique to Cappadocia. Each room is individually decorated in Ottoman style and some rooms have nice terraces with fantastic views. Our room could fit 3 people in it and had comfy beds & a clean bathroom. It is a 5min walk to downtown and close to the only hamam or Turkish bath in Ürgüp. The only con is there isn't an elevator to lug your bags up the steep steps but there's no short of help here, so no worries.
Mr Ibrahim's lovely wife makes delicious home cooked meals. They also have nice Cappadocian wines & Turkish beer available during meals.
Unique Qualities: I've stayed at the $600+ a night Atlantis, the Palm hotel in Dubai before and I'm also quite happy staying here, most of all because of the friendly family environment. The manager is up at all hours because he'll be there first thing in the morning to make us breakfast and is up to chat with us till past midnight! He's always friendly & helpful, giving all the information you need, serves you meals and is especially curious when a particular guest started performing 'magic tricks'
There's a nice terrace on the roof but I think it's more used during the warmer months where you can enjoy a BBQ under the stars. Oh yes, I especially am fond of the cute chubby cats that hang around the hotel
