We went to Chateau St. Michael via the Spirit of Puget Sound Dinner Train. My husband Erik wanted to do some special for us so we boarded the Spirit of Puget Sound Dinner Train. We took the train in Kent, Washington and it went all the way to Woodinville, Washington where the Chateau St. Michael winery is.
The dinner train was lovely. While we were touring Seattle and the adjacent cities, we were served with delicious meals, desert and wine.
When we were done eating, we finally reached our destination. We were toured around the winery, to the old barrels. The tour guide described each barrel and how old the wine was. Then we proceeded to the display center of Chateau St. Michael. There were different kinds of wine for sale and different kinds of cheeses.
It was almost Christmas time when we visited the Chateau, so it was a very festive atmosphere.
For a certain fee (I forgot how much already), we had our chance to taste all the wine. The bar tender was teaching us how to open a bottle of wine correctly and how to pour the bottle to a wine glass. He also taught us how to choose the correct wine glass for a specific wine.
Each glass was made for a certain drink. Each drink was made for a certain food...He then proceeded to let us pour our glass of drink. Each drink, we have to swirl it on the glass wine and then smelled it. Then, we drank the wine slowly. After each drink, he asked us what we felt inside our mouth. As we described it, he was teaching us, the kind of drink it was.
After the wine-tasting, we ended up buying six bottles of wine. We went back and boarded the train and head back home.
Overall, our visit to Chateau St. Michael was memorable. The dinner train was superb. It was very romantic! It is too bad that there is no more Spirit of Puget Sound Dinner Train. However, there is still the Spirit of Puget Sound Dinner Cruise. You board a cruise ship and it goes all over the Puget Sound while you are having dinner (I had this dinner cruise, too, with my children and will post it on a separate VT To Do List).
