Baroque Façade of Iglesia del Salvador
by MM212

The Baroque church, Iglesia del Salvador, was built in 1712 on the ruins of the Mosque of Ibn Addabas which had been turned into a church years prior. The mosque dated from the 9th century during the reign of Caliph Abderrahman II and was Seville's Great Mosque for two centuries, before the Cathedral's predecessor was built. As for Iglesia del Salvador, despite being nearly constructed from scratch, a few elements from the mosque have survived to this day, including the lower part of the bell tower and a patio in the interior. Iglesia del Salvador is Seville's second in size only to the city's Cathedral.

Address: Plaza del Salvador
