"City centre budget hotel" Gate Hotel Tip by Elena77

Gate hotel is a small budget hotel (1*) very much in the city centre of Dublin (just off O'Connell Street). The location is the hotel's biggest plus. But the low prices do, of course, have disadvantages, too. There is a pub downstairs (Fibber McGee's) and they do have live bands playing there at times. So if you have keen senses and you intend to sleep before 2:30am you should either bring earplugs or, at least, insist on a room on the upper floors. I can't judge the degree of noise pollution, though, as that day we actually WERE the band playing downstairs at the pub.
The building is pretty old with uneven floors and stairs which is not a real disadvantage in my eyes as it adds some ambience. The rooms were alright, in view of the prices. They were clean but did have huge water spots at the ceiling and the window pointed towards the pub's backyard. The rooms are equipped with hair dryer, tea/ coffee facilities, phone and TV. Gate hotel offers single, double and triple rooms, both en suite or without bathroom. The staff is very friendly and helpful and is happy to provide you with some info on the vicinity.
The breakfast was "full Irish" which I don't like so I was limited to toast and eggs. But the guys really enjoyed their bacon and beans and sausages etc. ; )

Unique Qualities: The hotel offers a baby - sitting service which has to be booked in advance. Cot, high chair and children's meals are also available.
