What Reykjavik may lack in beautiful architecture and buildings it more than makes up for with surroundings. The entire city is encircled by a stunningly beautiful snowcapped ridge of hills and to the north and west by the deep blue harbour. One of the best places to view this beautiful city scape is from the Perlan Tower where you can see out over the city towards the hills and harbour. The clouds and mist which often encircle the bay give the impression of smoke which gives the bay its nickname - 'Smoky Bay'
The harbour front itself is nice for a stroll from the busy port all the way round the city centre ringroad which looks out over the bay towards the hills. Another of Reykjavik's famous sigts, the Solar Voyager sculpture is also located along the harbour front. You can also pick up a whale watching tour from the harbour front.
