"Road to Hana & Beyond" Maui Things to Do Tip by hgfuller

Maui Things to Do: 486 reviews and 992 photos

Take the infamous "road to hana" BUT don't try to do it in one day unless you're on a tour bus. And although maps may show a road that will make a loop back to the west side of the island, the road was knocked out several years ago. You have to go back the way you came.

We rode out on our first day, having plenty of time to stop and take in the views many times along the way. Then we stayed overnight in the little laid-back town of Hana. On the second day we took the road-beyond-hana to the sacred pools. The road becomes even more narrow on this stretch. Take time to stop for locals offering shaved ice, hand-made jewelry, and the experience of "talk story." Talking with the artist who is an Elvis fan about her photos and meeting Elvis is a treat, even if you're not an Elvis Presley fan.

PS - Watch out for the falling ripe breadfruit in early fall. It can put a dent in your car.

Address: Hana
