Because this area is still considered sacred to both the Navajo and Hopi Tribes, they were heavily involved in the research and preservation of this site. Artifacts found in this part of the ruins indicated this may have been a burial chanber. In order to pay proper respect to those possibly buried here and out of respect for the Navajo and Hopi Tribes, this area was left unexcavated. It is very important when doing research or merely being a tourist to pay close attention to, and respect, local customs and beliefs.
