"The Icelandic Wonders museum- elves, trolls and..." Stokkseyri Things to Do Tip by Regina1965

The Icelandic Wonders museum is really a "must-see" while visiting Stokkseyri. Its theme is so integrated with the Icelandic nation's psyche - elves, trolls and the Northern lights! As you enter the museum there is a lovely souvenir shop with trolls, Icelandic Jule lads (jˇlasveinar), elves and more for sale.
As you enter the cave which is the museum the first thing you encounter is a pond with big fish in it and on your right hand side are the elves, it is lovely as if you have entered an elf-rock. Watch your step as it is quite dark in there, the only thing I want to complain about is the lack of light on the floor. The next cave you enter is the troll's cave where you encounter a big troll sleeping. And watch out for the smaller trolls which spook you, one gets really startled as it is so dark there! Then you enter the ice-cave with its Northern lights, which is quite lovely - and freezing cold. Watch out for the small troll which waits for you at the door as you leave the ice-cave :D
No pictures are allowed inside the museum.
The museum is open in the winter time Mondays to Fridays from 18-20:30 and weekends from 13-20:30.
Entrance fee is ISK 1.500.
The Icelandic name of the museum is "┴lfa- tr÷lla- og norurljˇsasafni", the museum is 1.200 fm2 and in the same building is the Ghost Centre "Draugasafni" (see my next tip).
Address: Hafnargata 9, 825 Stokkseyri, South-Iceland
