Every Saturday morning, from early dawn, the street market in Fokea serves the residents of Anavissos, Agios Nikolaos, Fokea and nearby villages, with fresh vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts, grains, rice, olives, household supplies, clothes and other things that would surprise you.
If you haven't experienced a local "Leiki' or 'people's street market, you must do this when in Greece. It is the real Greek essence of shopping for weekly food. A ritual that every Greek family is familiar with and without would probably become ill.
This street market in Fokea, is an incredible mix of just about anything and everything you could possibly want for your kitchen and then some...
What to buy: Fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, beans, rice, and much more.
What to pay: about the same as in supermarkets, but fresh from the fields
Directions: parallel street from beach road at Fokea. Follow sign that says 'Public Parking.' Or ask anyone where the Leiki is.
