Although the main Udaipur attractions are within walking distance form most hotels, transport will be needed for any day trips. Plenty of autorickshaws ply the lanes and streets, and congregate outside hotel entrances. Be sure to negotiate a price BEFORE you leave for any destination. Likewise with car-hire. Most hotels have a travel-desk, and can arrange a car with driver for the day- even onward travel to another city. We hired cars with a driver quite frequently, and were very satisfied. Cost is usually between R2500-R3000 (eg Udaipur to Jaipur). Make sure that your driver understands English.
