If you have explored Copenhagen and want to get away to something different, I would recommend the town of Roskilde. The town is less than an hour away from Copenhagen and an easy trip to make. It is about a 15 minute walk from the train station to the Viking Ship Museum. The museum is located right on the water.

The museum itself is made up of two parts. One part is where the raised remanents of the viking ships are housed and the second half is a working ship yard that you can walk around.

Inside the museum, there are several different film strips that you can watch talking about how the ships were discovered and raised. There is also a section of the museum that allows kids to play with different garbs and viking "toys" like a broad sword and shield.

If you are familiar with the viking history, you could see the museum in about 45 minutes. However, if you want to view everything, you should budget at least two hours.

If you elect to get a "Copenhagen Card", this will cover the cost of the train ride to Roskilde and also the cost of the admission to the museum.

Address: Vindeboder 12, 4000 Roskilde, Denmarkı
Directions: The museum is mostly north out of the train station. It is easiest to walk to the cathedral and then go north past the empty lot towards the sea. The museum rests on the shore.
