Although not so evident from the outside, Église Saint-Roch is one of the largest churches in Paris. It was designed by the royal architect Jacques Le Mercier and completed in 1653 in a Renaissance style. Subsequently, two chapels were added and a few further renovations were made. The Classical façade was completed in 1740 and restored after some destruction during the revolution. The interior has some of the richest religious paintings and art among Parisian churches, most of which date from the 18th century.
