Also known as the Hanging Church, is is one of the oldest church's in the Old Cairo area. It was built on the ruins of two old towers that were part of the Fortress of Babylon. There are glass viewing slots in the floor where you can see what is below the church. The church dates back to the end of the 3rd century, and has been reconstructed several times.

The church became the seat of the Patriarch's of the Orthodox church, after it transferred from Alexandria. There are over 100 icons here, which date back as far as the 8th century. The mosaics in the courtyard are also very impressive.
