"good exhibition on the `Macchia' school of art" Past Events Tip by halikowski

Past Events, Florence: 3 reviews and 2 photos

On exhibit are 130 works of the Macchioli, of which 64 by Fattori. Works include pictures, drawings, watercolors, sculptures, and photographs, divided into 8 sections. Topic include historical themes (Elisabeth I of England, Mary Stuart on the battlefield of Crookstone) to military themesi (Cavalry Charge (carica), The Massacre (eccido) at Mantova, Great manouvres), to landscapes(Tempest at sea) and scenes of country life (oxen pulling carts).

Fattori's works are placed next to other contemporary artists from different schools (the neoclassicist Pietro Benvenuti, the romantic Giuseppe Bezzuoli, the purist Enrico Pollastrini); to some of his friends who were also experimenting with new techniques (Boldini, Borrani, Sernesi, Signorini); to his students (in particular Adele Galeotti and Enedina Pinti), when in 1886 women were finally allowedto receive a higher technical education.

Address: Accademia di Belle Arti in via Ricasoli
Directions: Entry: € 5, reduced price 3,5, students and school groups are free.
