After much research and advice from friends mum and I decided to use the tube to get from Heathrow to our hotel (Tottenham Court Road Station). It was surprisingly easy to use and we only transferred once. The trip from Heathrow was even above ground for a while so we saw a bit of the surrounds. Trip was pretty cheap I think about 4 pounds each for an all day all zone ticket. Be warned if you have luggage and are travelling in a biggish group move quickly! I managed to get on one train but the doors shut before mum could. Luckily she got the next train about 1 min later and we met up but could have been a bit scary. We have a good laugh now! Also we were surprised at how far underground we were when we finally were getting off. Lucky the escalators were working otherwise we would have hauled our heavy suitcases up about 5 flights! We did see some escalators that weren't working. Mind you would definitely use the tube for this trip again.
