The harbor of Salem and its quite protected big bay made it ideal for shipping and warehousing of goods. It would take a couple of days sometimes before they could unload due to back up of traffic, waiting to be brought onto t wharf for unload. The streets are quite and Essex is pedestrian only. It is a smattering of shops and a Mall that is mostly dead inside. By the way-bunghole does not mean what you are think. It is a hole in the top of a whiskey barrel
