This area was a very early Christian cemetery which was used until the end of 1822. The burial ground has gone, but left behind are the Tombstones that are embedded in the wall.
1821 is the oldest Tombstone [ John C. Collingwood of the ship 'Susan] which is embedded in the wall surrounding the old cemetery.
Many prominent people are buried here alongside early pioneers including Chinese Christians.
The gravestones and memorials were imported from Calcutta, India.

Gothic Gates, that were built in 1846 lead you into the cemetery area.
