An asphalt path has been created along the Thames River. This path is great for walking or jogging - it is quiet, cool and colourful in the fall - the leaves were just starting to turn when we were there in mid-September. I'm not sure how long the trail follows the river, but we walked from downtown to the university of Western Ontario and back along it.
There is one small problem, the people on foot have to share the path with bicyclers and so we were always checking over our shoulders. The dog walkers seem well trained however - we never saw dog poop. The Canadian geese handlers need to be trained better however - their poop was in evidence in a few places. ;o)
We were told the river was unusually full for a September in 2008. Perhaps when you wander the river walk, it won't be such a raging flow.
