Körnerplatz, the square at the end of the Blaues Wunder bridge, is a traffic hub for the suburbs on the right bank of the Elbe, both for car traffic and buses. From here, too, the funicular up to Weißer Hirsch (photo 3) and the suspension railway up to Loschwitzer Höhe depart.
This area which is situated much higher than the Elbe and thus quite safe of floods was the location of the first settlement which then extended further downhill towards the river. When the bridge was built the old village houses were demolished and substituted by larger buildings in the historistic style of the late 19th century.
The building on the southern side of the square (photo 2) contains an excellent coffeehouse and bakery, Café Wippler, which is famous for its Eierschecke, a Dresden cake speciality.
