Dresden Off The Beaten Path: 122 reviews and 284 photos
Before becoming part of the city of Dresden, Loschwitz used to be a small village inhabited by fishermen, skippers and artisans. The old centre of the village with its little houses is still preserved around Friedrich-Wieck-Straße, the streets from Körnerplatz down to the river bank. Elbe floods have frequently affected the quarter, the last time in 2002, but the houses have carefully been restored. Some of them now contain little arts and crafts shops.
Photo 1 was taken from the Elbe bank. The half-timbered house on the right was the ferryman's house - in those times before the Blue Wonder bridge was built, Loschwitz was connected with Blasewitz on the other side of the river by a ferry. The larger house behind contains an excellent Italian restaurant.
