A bit down from the The Lesser Physician Saints Church (or Mali Sveti Vraci / St Cosmas and Damian) is the Church of St Bogorodica Celnicka, or Holy Virgin Mother Celnicka.
This church is built on the foundations of an earlier medieval building. Its eastern wall leans against the town walls at a point where a town gate (Front Gate), believed to have been one of three entrances to the old town, has been discovered. The addition Celnicka refers to this gate.
The frescoes, and hence the church, are thought to date back to the late 14th century, after 1380. The 19th century murals are the work of the fresco painter Dico.
The church is likely to be closed when you want to visit it. Very often, the person with the key does not live far. In this case, it is the woman in the house right next to the church. However, she was very unfriendly and told us she only opens the church for 15 minutes on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 0800. You can try if you have more luck: Key of the church = klucot od crkvata, pronounced "klutsjot od serkvata".
2012 update: We tried again to get the key, but the woman told us that she does not have the key anymore and the current caretaker "lives far away".
