Tran Xuan Soan Market, Hanoi: 1 reviews and 2 photos
Some kilometres away from the Old Quarter is Tran Xuan Soan market hall which is my personal favourite among Hanoi's markets. While parts of the market hall are reserved for the usual things (fruit, meat, lettuce, fish...), the second floor is dedicated to selling clothes and fabrics. If you want to get a new shirt or skirt tailored, this is the place to buy the fabric. In the streets nearby, you'll find dozens more shops, but also plenty of tailors that'll be able to finish your order in about one week. Though tailoring is faster in Hoi An in Central Vietnam, you should be able to get a better price in Hanoi. Strolling amidst giant heaps of fabrics (the fabric "shops"), watching the women chit-chatting through the day, getting lost in the labyrinth of stalls... This is how an Asian market should be like! If you dare, try to buy something - but be aware that a good price is hard to reach for a westerner.
Apart from the two described, there are many other markets in Hanoi - mostly hidden in the narrow streets away from the main roads. It's interesting to just leave a main street and see where the byways will take you.
