Colton Point State Park protects some 368 acres along the west rim of the Pine Creek Gorge. You reach the park via a 5 mile paved road that winds through the trees starting in Ansonia which US 6 runs through. The park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933 and 1936. There are a few rustic campsites at the park and several large open-air pavilions for group picnics, as well. Several trails extend into the woods atop the Point, though most visitors will probably simply drive to a couple of the car park overlooks to snap a few pictures. The first viewpoint is arguably the best, some 650 feet above Pine Creek. From the viewpoints at the end of the Point, you have a nice straight look across the Gorge to the viewpoint on the east rim at Leonard Harrison State Park.
