"Ghost and Graveyards Tour" Alexandria Things to Do Tip by Tom_Fields
Alexandria Things to Do: 121 reviews and 348 photos
Alexandria's Colonial Tours offers a very creepy tour of the city's dark and seamy past. The Ghosts and Graveyards Tour takes visitors to some of the city's allegedly haunted places. I don't believe in the supernatural, but the strange tales of local history and folklore can still give me goosebumps.
The tour starts at the Alexandria Visitors Center (Ramsay House). It proceeds to some of the city's well-known places, such as the Market Square and Gadsby's Tavern, ending at Christ Church.
Learn about the gallows that stood at Market Square, a house involved in the Underground Railroad, the notorious "Short Jack", the desecration of graves by Union troops in the Civil War, the mysterious strangers at Gadsby's Tavern, and more.
Address: 221 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
Directions: Starting at King and Fairfax Streets. See website for tour times. Tickets can be reserved by phone, or bought at She's Unique Jewelry, 205 King Street.
