Albergo Saint Leonard: "Loved this hotel for the peace and quiet" Top 5 Page for this destination Ischia Hotel Tip by deebum25

We booked at this hotel through venere.com which hasn't steered us wrong yet. It is located on the small island of Ischia which you get to by taking a ferry and then usually a bus as the taxis are expensive. It can be quite confusing to get around this little island but if you ask the bus driver for the Panza stop and then get off you are in the town center. To get to the hotel you need to stand in front of the Banco di Napoli where a shuttle bus comes pretty much once an hour except between the hours of 12 and 3. Luckily we went into a tabacchi to seek directions and the owner was kind enough to steer us in the direction of the bank and call the hotel shuttle bus to pick us up. (Another benefit of learning the language!) The very twisty road to the hotel manages to go up, down, up and then down again and the hotel sits at the bottom of the hill. You would have a hard time finding it on your own.
I thought the hotel was beautiful. Gorgeous views, the room was functional but hardly elaborate and the shower was just about big enough for one grown person. But the reason we loved this hotel was the thermal bath. Fifteen minutes in and you absolutely forgot any aches or pains that you might have. We enjoyed the thermal bath so much first thing in the morning that we actually skipped going to Poseidon Gardens and Negombo. We figured why spend the money to get something there we can get here for free!
The staff was very courteous and we spoke my version of Engtalian. We didn't eat at the hotel except for breakfast on the day that we left and I wasn't impressed with it but that's hardly unusual. Italians don't eat large breakfasts.
Overall I loved this hotel but I do have to agree with the other person who reviewed it. The pool is still grotty and full of algae. One night it rained hard and the pool was a glowing neon green. If you wanted to take a dip you kept your mouth shut and didn't go under the water!
Unique Qualities: Outstanding views, thermal bath on premises, welcoming staff, short walk into town or an available shuttle bus
Address: Via S. Gennaro, 53, Forio - Panza, Naples
Comparison: about average
Directions: Get off at the Panza bus stop, find the Banco di Napoli and wait for the hourly shuttle bus to the hotel. Otherwise it is very difficult to find.
